Film language and production- first impressions

In our first class of Film production we came across with some difficult answers to give!

Why is which and every one of us in this course!

“Be famous…”, “I love cinema…”, “I want to be a producer…”, “express myself…”, “And just want to be famous and rich!”(I think the last can suit us all =D)

Well this was my answer!

"Have you ever heard of Portuguese cinema? Well I’m here because I want to change it!
I really love to read, and nowadays, we know that people don't really read books, so I want to make people see what I see while I'm reading, and the way I can make it happen is trough films!
I want to learn as much as I can!
Direct films as much as I can!
And, after a few years, I want to go back to Portugal. I want to teach the next generation of portuguese film makers! I really want to put Portugal on the map by it’s cinema"

Then we had the “wake up call” from Eddie, I think it was the first time that some people face the reality, It’s impossible for everyone in our course to make it to director, producer, etc…

Producer Vs Director

Director

  • It’s responsible for overseeing the creative aspects of the film
  • Decide how the film should look, as to pick up a script and turn it into shots, and finally a film
  • Decides when characters should come in
  • Where the light is pointed
  • The frame rate, time of shot, etc...
  • As to think about the audience
  • Their reaction
  • Who is the target audience

Producer

  • ·        It’s the one responsible for making sure everything in set goes according to plan
  • ·        It has to make sure that staff is in the work place at time
  • ·        It’s responsible for the crew:
                        Example:

      • 20 cameramen
      • 10 light technicians
      • 2/3 editors, plus editor assistants
      • Performers
      • 10 make-up artists
      • 10 cloth designers
      • 6 produce assistants
      • Runners
      • Catering team
      • Cleaning team

  •   Security team
  • It has to make sure that everyone is paid in the end of the day, so it’s responsible for making the bank id check, the contracts, for the contract it needs lawyers.

Huge kiss to my cousin who I'm sure she will be the first one to read this tread!
